Moose Tour On the Water:
Nothing is more awe-inspiring than coming around a bend in the river and finding yourself face to face with a magnificent bull moose. These gentle, trusting creatures love remote ponds and streams. The best way to find moose is by slipping quietly into their wilderness habitat. We arrange completely outfitted moose watching trips for you with a Registered Maine Guide. Explore hidden ponds in a kayak or canoe and search for these majestic creatures.

Moose Tour On the Land:
This guided interpretive nature tour consists of great scenery, moose and wildlife watching, infused with local history and lore. The Moosehead Lake region's backcountry can be a bit overwhelming to the visitor with its vast road network and thousands of acres of undeveloped lands. With a Registered Maine Guide leading the tour you don't have to worry about which road you're on or if you should have made that last turn. You can sit back, enjoy the scenery and enjoy your guide's company. From scenic mountain vistas to secret moose hangouts this trip has it all.
Age: All ages. Private trips available for families with children under 10.
Season: April 1st thru October 10th.

Fishing At Moosehead Hills
Paddle secret ponds and rivers with a Master Maine Guide who knows where the fish and moose are! Whether you are new to fishing or a seasoned veteran, you'll experience the thrill of being out in the wilderness pursuing brook trout, lake trout, salmon, small mouth bass, and muskie.

While touring the ponds you will also be on the lookout for moose, deer, loon, beaver, and other native species.

Canoeing & Kayaking
Kayaks are available for your use at our cabins from June 15 to September 15. Or, for a great "get away to the wilderness" feeling, spend a day paddling the West Outlet to the Kennebec River.

This river runs from Moosehead Lake to Indian Pond, and is filled with wildlife and beautiful scenery along the way.
  • Try your skill at maneuvering your kayak through gentle rapids
  • Bring a pole and take time to fish along the way
  • Look for moose, loons, ducks, herons, and eagles
  • Great for any age
These are either guided or self guided trips. Kayak or canoe and van shuttle service are provided.

Inflatable Kayaking
Enjoy the exhilaration and sense of accomplishment that comes with navigating our beautiful rivers in your very own inflatable kayak. This half day trip is perfect for families and friends.

The East Outlet of the Kennebec River offers Class I and II rapids for inflatable river kayak trips, just enough to get you wet and cool off. Led by a Registered Maine Guide, the trip begins at the headwaters of the Kennebec River, where it flows out of Moosehead Lake, Maine's largest lake. You will kayak down river until the river enters beautiful Indian Pond.

Whitewater Rafting
Experience the thrill of rushing through a pristine wilderness river gorge. Paddle with the experts through class II to V rapids. Evergreen studded rock cliffs rise dramatically above you. Play in waterfalls and swimming holes along the way. Look for an osprey in its nest, or a bald eagle soaring overhead.

A group of highly trained and experienced Registered Maine River Guides will treat you to a day of whitewater rafting that you will never forget.

The Moosehead Trail provides for 160 miles of groomed and scenic snowmobiling around the lake. Gas and food are available along the way. Over 300 miles of groomed and well marked trails connect with Maine's Interconnecting Trail System. Snowmobile right from your cabin onto this extensive trail system. Snowmobile rentals are available nearby.

Skiing Snowboarding
Big Squaw Mountain Ski Resort is 8 miles away for downhill skiing and snowboarding. The Mountain has a variety of trails for the whole family. Lift tickets and food are priced with families in mind, too. The breathtaking views of Moosehead Lake and Mount Katahdin in the background make Big Squaw one of the most scenic ski areas in the country. Equipment rentals and lessons are available.

Trip is a total of 2-3 hours in length with about an hour spent riding in the dog sled while your guide safely mushes you through the wilderness. This is a great trip to meet the dogs and see what dog sledding is all about. A professional musher guides the sled while you ride.

Approximately a 4 hour hands-on trip helping with setting up the team and equipment and then mushing your own team for about 2 hours through the north woods. A guide will be accompanying you via snowmobile for safety and assistance. YOU GUIDE THE SLED.

Contrary to popular belief, Ice Fishing is not just for "rednecks!" This sport is becoming quite popular with families, couples, and groups of friends visiting the Moosehead area. A Registered Maine Guide will keep you warm in a heated shelter on the ice, cook your meals-- even clean your fish for you! All gear and food is provided. While ice fishing you can cross country ski, snowshoe a remote undeveloped island, snowmobile, or just relax.

Our nature trails at Moosehead Hills are specifically designed for hikers and showshoers to enjoy. From your cabin at our home base on Moosehead Lake you can step out onto 50 acres of forest, streams, and beautiful views. There is nothing like the feeling of being the first to lay tracks after a fresh snowfall. The solitude of the forest, the balsam scent of the evergreen trees, and the feeling of the fresh, crisp winter air all combine to make showshoeing an exhilarating activity for the whole family. Our guests at Sunrise Lodge and Loon Lodge are also welcome to come over and enjoy our trails.

At Loon Lodge you can leave right from your cabin and be on an extensive network of nature trails. They follow the shoreline and also meander through sections of forest.

Hiking At Moosehead Hills Cabins
From your cabin you can step right out onto 50 acres of woods and nature trails at our home base on Moosehead Lake. The terrain varies from deep woods with meandering streams, to lush raspberry and wildflower fields, to glades with unbeatable views of the lake and mountains. You will see moose prints along the way, and if you are lucky you'll catch the moose himself taking a drink from the stream. Our trails are perfect for light hiking and snowshoeing.

The Moosehead region is a hidden gem for hiking enthusiasts. Beginner to advanced hikers can find a rich variety of trails and mountains with hidden ponds, spectacular views, and plenty of wildlife. For our hiking guests, we have created directions and descriptions of area day hikes that vary in difficulty from gently family hikes to strenuous portions of the Appalachian Trail.

This is a truly unique Maine experience. Individuals and families can get out in the woods and learn how to shoot with a highly qualified instructor, who is a Registered Master Maine Guide, Certified NRA Instructor, and Certified Hunter Safety Master Instructor. Multiple calibers are available to try, including handguns, shotguns, and rifles.
